  • Scout Camp 2016 – New Parking Space & Learning to Render

  • Crayfish

    Found this chap, a crayfish, and a couple of his mates, in the river. We’re so fortunate to have abundant clean water to support such a diversity of life here.

  • Plunge Pool

      No longer any need to walk far in the heat. Today’s reason to be cheerful is that our very own plunge pool is full again for the summer. We’ve a Scout group from Belgium due to join us shortly, followed by a couple of Permaculture Design Courses.

    Reasons to be cheerful – a handful of baby guinea pigs.

  • Hemlock Water Dropwort

    Hemlock water dropwort (Oenanthe crocata) is a plant toxic to both humans and livestock. It grows luxuriantly in the stream here, and anywhere wet. We need to clear it periodically otherwise it blocks the flow of water in winter. We use it as a mulch if we catch it before it’s seeded, or hot compost more »

  • May Foraging Challenge

    Last month’s foraging challenge was great fun, and there just wasn’t time to experiment with all the ideas I was inspired to try. Which seemed like a great reason to extend it 🙂 The idea is just to try and use as many foraged / wild foods as possible in our day to day meals. more »

  • Reasons to be Cheerful: After the Rain

    After the rain comes the most marvelous rainbow. Proof that the sun must be up there somewhere! We’re still hunting for the pot of gold 🙂
